- The Power of Paper -
In Japan, animals are considered to have a magical power and became messengers of the 'kami' (god) at temples and shrines. An illustration of animals made by 21 papercraft artists is shown below.
Title: "Hō-ō"
'Hō-ō' is the Chinese phoenix in Japanese.
It is a mythological bird introduced by Chinese to Japan.
The beautiful birds with colorful plume are considered a symbol of peace and rich harvest.
I checked how to make paper 'Hō-ō' by comparing it with samples I made as a trial.
I mainly wanted to make a beautiful plume, because I thought the technique in this picture fits for it.
I weaved the strips of paper into checkered pattern for the body.
